Afganistan Orthodox Church

10 September 2006

My kids figured this out long ago...if I have a gift for someone and I am excited about giving it, I have never been able to keep it a secret for very long. More often than not, I spill the beans before the gift-giving event. Tonight is no exception for the readers of this blog. We have a new catechumen in our congregation (an American) who worked together with the Romanian 300th Infantry Battalion in Afganistan in rebuilding the first Orthodox Church in the country, located in the Romanian soldiers' camp. Unfortunately, I can't wait to share these pictures until he has written his story. So...here are pictures of the building project. When our catechumen finishes writing...I will post his reflections. Until then...I hope you enjoy these encouraging photos.

All glory and honor to God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

Edited to update information.

That is really neat, although I'm surprised to hear it is the first. I would have thought that the christian population in Afghanistan (small though it may be), would have been largely Orthodox.

Thanks for sharing this. I am going to email it to my former priest who is Romanian. While growing up, he knew nothing of God or the Church. His father wouldn't teach him because the country was communist and he would have been arrested. When communisim fell, Father learned about God and became a priest!

Thanks Dixie!
